In September 2016, ACTE conducted a research study, underwritten by American Express Global Business Travel, to understand better what it is that modern business travelers are seeking in their travel experience and about their unique needs, concerns and habits.

Six months later, ACTE revisited the topic and surveyed its global membership of travel buyers about the kind of requests they are receiving from their travelers and presented these new findings in a mini whitepaper.

A few key findings from the research include:

• Bleisure still on the rise: In the six months since ACTE’s last survey, there has been a 43 percent increase in the number of requests about adding leisure travel to their business trip, while 20 percent of travel buyers say they already have introduced or wish to introduce a policy and/or insurance in order to offer leisure travel as an option to its travelers.

Personal safety concerns: There is a heightened concern among modern business travelers about their personal safety while traveling (a 56 percent bump since September) while anxieties over travel to and from the United States also has seen a spike, with a 54 percent increase in inquiries.

• Hotels still at the top: Despite a lot of talk in the industry about letting travelers book sharing economy accommodations, only 24 percent of travel buyers say that it is permitted in their travel policies.
