As chief people officer at American Express Global Business Travel (GBT), Patti Huska keenly understands how people are the foundation of a company’s success and what businesses need to do to attract and retain top talent.
In connection to a special series GBT has created for small- to medium-sized enterprises, she offers some lessons she’s learned throughout her career on creating an environment where employees can thrive.
One suggestion she has for emerging businesses: Have a clear definition of your employee value proposition and tools that empower your workers.
“Attracting the best and quality employees is a challenge for any organization,” she said. “You may not have the benefit of a college campus, internship programs, etc. Have a clear definition of the value that you can provide an employee. Then have tools to help alleviate manual and administrative work so you can focus on growing your business.”
